A website is no longer a luxury: it's the first thing customers check before reaching out. But having one isn't enough. Plenty of websites look nice and still don't bring in a single message. The difference comes down to a few details any business owner can check.
1. Make it clear what you do in 5 seconds
When someone lands on your site, they decide within seconds whether to stay. Your main headline should say what you do and who it's for, in plain words. “Comprehensive solutions of excellence” says nothing; “Phone repairs in 1 hour in Lima” says everything.
2. Make it work perfectly on phones
Most of your visitors will come from a phone. If the text is tiny, buttons are hard to tap or people have to scroll sideways, they'll leave for a competitor's site.
3. A clear button to contact you
Don't hide your contact details at the bottom. For most businesses, a WhatsApp button that's always visible is the fastest way to turn a visit into a conversation. Fewer steps, more messages.
4. Proof that you're real and trustworthy
People buy from those they trust. It helps a lot to show:
- Real photos of your business, team or products (not stock images).
- Work you've already done or customers you've served.
- Reviews from real customers.
- Your address, opening hours and social media.
5. Make it load fast
If your site takes more than three seconds to open, many people give up. Heavy photos and bloated templates are the usual culprits. A fast site also ranks better on Google.
6. Make sure Google can find it
A website nobody finds is like a shop with no sign. Every page needs a title and description written for what your customers search for, and your business should be listed on Google Maps (Google Business Profile), which is free.
7. Make sure it's yours
Your domain (for example, yourbusiness.com) and your website logins should be in your name. If whoever built your site disappears, you shouldn't lose it.
In short
A good website quickly explains what you do, looks great on phones, builds trust and makes it very easy to reach you. If yours doesn't tick these boxes, it's worth improving: it's a salesperson that works 24/7.
