The challenge
There's almost never signal in the mountains, and most route apps stop working right there. They also drain the battery, which is what you most need to save on a long hike.
The solution
TrekStudio works offline: maps and routes are stored on the phone. Record your hike with one tap, see distance, elevation, altitude and time, and import other people's routes to follow them.
The outcome
The app is in closed testing on the App Store and Google Play. It will be available to everyone soon.
